2. Yad Vashem
Yad Vashem means “a place and a name” and is the Jewish state’s living memorial to the Holocaust. Its mission is to safeguard the past, and the memory of the over 6 million Jews slaughtered by Nazi Germany and its allies, and to impart the teachings of the tragic events of the 20th century to future generations. Yad Vashem was established in 1953 and is now the second most visited site in Israel after the Wailing Wall.
