Nonagenarian Peres is not just friendly with celebrities—he’s family, too. Before moving to Israel at the age of 11, he was born as Szymon Perski in a small Polish shtetl called Wiszniew, which is now in Belarus. This was the ancestral homeland of another well-known Perske (in her case): his cousin Betty Joan Perske, who is better known as Hollywood legend Lauren Bacall.
