Hadassah’s main medical center is teetering near financial ruin.

The Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem is stacked against a $300 million deficit, $80 million of which was racked up in the past year alone.

Hadassah, the umbrella organization of the medical arm, worked with the center to solve its financial woes, to little result. The breakdown has led to a halt in ties between Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, and the Hadassah Medical Center.

The Forward reported the organization has been unable to raise funding for daily operations, and employees at the center have received just partial salary since last month.

Four Israeli members of the Hadassah medical board resigned in October, after a fallout over negotiations with the Israeli government to subsidize funding. The Israeli board members were excluded from the talks.

American board members comprise 51 percent of the plenum, with a majority rule.

According to the Forward, Hadassah is facing the collapse due to the economic downturn and after effects of Bernie Madoff’s notorious Ponzi scheme.
