In a display of ever-strengthening ties between Israel and China, a Knesset delegation met in Beijing on Tuesday with top Chinese officials, including Premier Li Keqiang and Zhand Dejiang, Chairman of the National People’s Congress of China. The Israeli delegation included Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein as well as lawmakers from both the Coalition and Opposition.
“This is a historic visit, because it is the first time that a Speaker of the Knesset has visited China,” Edelstein remarked. “Israel has not forgotten that China gave sanctuary to Jewish refugees who had fled the horror of the Holocaust during World War Two.”
