Israel struck targets in Gaza today, following two rockets that were fired into the Jewish state as world leaders gathered for the funeral of Ariel Sharon.

The Israeli Air Force struck Islamic Jihad targets near the Gazan city of Deir el-Balah, retaliation for missiles fired at the western Negev Monday afternoon.

The IDF said the attack on the Jewish state was a test firing by militant groups. No injuries have been reported on either side.

Mourners were congregating near the Israeli target site, where past Prime Minister Sharon was being laid to rest at his family’s farm, just outside Sderot.

Those in attendance included Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Vice President Joe Biden.

The government was prepared for an attack today, predicting the funeral might stir up some anti-Israel sentiment. Iron Dome batteries were put in place to protect the funeral, and there was an increased police force at the event.

“The terrorists and their infrastructure operating in the Gaza Strip will not succeed in their grotesque intentions,” said Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, IDF Spokesman.

“The IDF will seek them out, eliminate their capabilities and pursue them wherever they may hide. Hamas and its terrorist servants are not immune; it is our moral obligation and calling to protect Israel against such atrocious acts.”
