Israel struck targets in the southern Gaza Strip today, killing three Islamic Jihad terrorists.
The strike was a retaliatory mission, after an Israeli infantry and engineering corps were fired on by mortar shell while performing routine work along the border.
The three individuals killed in Gaza were members of the Al-Quds Brigades, the military arm of Islamic Jihad, a Palestinian militant group labeled a terror cell by the US, EU and Israel.
“They were in confrontation with the occupation trying to stop the progress of Israeli military vehicles which were approaching the area,” said a statement by the Al-Quds Brigades.
The Israel Defense Forces also released a statement, with spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner saying, “Rapid reaction and operational capabilities are key to combating terrorist activities against Israel and our forces. Terrorists must know that there is a price to pay when participating in aggression.”
Also Tuesday, an Israeli drone crashed in Gaza, due to what is believed to be a technical malfunction. Members of Hamas reportedly retrieved the wreckage.
