Israel’s military intercepted a shipment of Iranian missiles en route to terror groups in the Gaza Strip.
The interception occurred early this morning, as the IDF uncovered a smuggling attempt of advanced weaponry.
“I would like to congratulate the IDF, Israel’s intelligence apparatuses and of course the commanders and soldiers of the navy who carried out a flawless operation to capture a covert Iranian weapons ship,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said today.
“As it conducts talks with [world] powers, as Iran smiles and utters pleasantries, the same Iran is sending lethal weapons to terror organizations…via an intricate network of clandestine global operations…in order to hurt innocent civilians.”
The successful recovery combined Israeli intel and operational capabilities, according to the IDF, as military head Benny Gantz ordered the Israeli Navy to intercept the delivery that was disguised as commercial cargo onboard a water vessel.
Numerous advanced weapons were discovered once officials boarded the craft. The weapons are now in transit to Israeli shores.
Weapons smuggling into Gaza is of particular concern for the Jewish state, as the Strip is a hot bed for terror cells waging ongoing attacks on Israel.
“The IDF will continue to operate against the Iranian attempts to arm regional terrorist organizations, who intend to continuously ignite our borders,” said IDF Spokesman, Lt. Col. Peter Lerner.
“We will continue to employ all the necessary means in order to prevent the armament of terrorist organizations and will combat the Iranian smuggling attempts that threaten the security and sovereignty of the State of Israel.”
