Israel targeted five Gaza sites late Saturday evening, hours after terrorists fired missiles into the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon.

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed shortly after that direct hits had been made on the “terror sites.”

The exchange came after similar fire Thursday evening out of the Strip, also prompting an IDF response. In total, five Gaza rockets were fired at Israel over the weekend alone.

“The retaliation this evening at Gaza terrorist aggression was precision, and intelligence based,” IDF spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said in a statement.

“It is our obligation to seek out those that wish to attack us, eliminate their capabilities and pursue them wherever they hide. Hamas rocket terrorism is an intolerable reality Israelis should not have to accept.”

This recent fire follows months of relative quiet in the Strip, though the IDF estimates 130 rockets have been launched out of Gaza in the past month.

The exchange also came after ongoing peace talk efforts virtually fell apart.
