A leading Israeli aviation firm unveiled an elite unmanned aerial vehicle at the International Air Show in Singapore today.
Israel Aerospace Industries showcased the new Super Heron HF alongside a series of other military aircraft fitted with cutting edge defense technology.
“From the technology displayed here at the booths of the Defense Ministry, I can say that Israel is a superpower,” said Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon at an air show ceremony. “The fact that Israel is represented here in this way, in a place so far from home, shows me that Israel is a superpower – in this respect, at least.”
The new Super Heron has a 200 horsepower diesel engine and advanced propulsion system, allowing the UAV to reach velocities upward of 60 feet per second.
“Based on IAI’s world-renowned Heron UAS, the Super Heron introduces the latest technology and re-defines Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance (MALE) Unmanned Aerial System (UAS),” said Joseph Weiss, IAI’s president and CEO.
“The Super Heron offers a flexible and modular design that adapts well to many of IAI’s customers seeking to extend their UAS capabilities, as well as for new customers entering the field.”
Other advantages of the new UAV reportedly include lower maintenance requirements and a safer to carry fuel.
