Joan Rivers’ daughter is suing the doctors who treated her mother before her death last year.

Melissa Rivers’ lawyer insists no other family should have to go through what she did.

The late comedian stopped breathing during a routine procedure at Yorkville Endoscopy in New York last September. A medical examiner ruled she died of brain damage due to lack of oxygen.

“Filing this lawsuit was one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever had to make,” Melissa Rivers said in a statement.

“What ultimately guided me was my unwavering belief that no family should ever have to go through what my mother, Cooper and I have been through. The level of medical mismanagement, incompetency, disrespect and outrageous behavior is shocking and frankly, almost incomprehensible. Not only did my mother deserve better, every patient deserves better. It is my goal to make sure that this kind of horrific medical treatment never happens to anyone again.”

Some of the allegations made against the clinic include the use of unlicensed medical staff as well as doctors taking “selfie” photos with an unconscious Rivers in the operating room.

J-Connection: Joan Rivers was a Jewish performer. Her daughter Melissa Rivers is also Jewish.
