A video in the archives of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum gives viewers a unique look at Warsaw’s Jewish Quarter in 1939.
The nearly three-minute clip shows color imagery of Jewish residents mingling in streets, shopping, and generally going about their daily lives.
The video also includes footage of men dressed in tattered clothing and sleeping on the street, highlighting some of the harsh realities of 1939 Jewish life.
The video is a rare look at World War II living for Polish Jews, and comes from the collection of the Gasul family. It is part of the museum’s Steven Spielberg Film and Video Archive.
