Hollywood pals Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore will be the toast of the upcoming 2014 CinemaCon event after landing the respective Male and Female Star of the Year awards.

The “Wedding Singer” actors are currently preparing to return to the big screen in romantic comedy “Blended,” their third film together, and now they will be honored for their careers side-by-side at the Las Vegas film convention.

CinemaCon boss Mitch Neuhauser praises Sandler for his “undeniable ability to keep audiences laughing,” while he says of Barrymore: “Is there anyone who isn’t in love with Drew Barrymore, one of the most captivating and incredibly talented actresses of our time?”

He adds, “Her career is simply remarkable and to think the first two directors to take her under their wing at the respective ages of 5 and 7 were Ken Russell (in “Altered States”) and Steven Spielberg (in “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”), is astonishing. And now, over three decades later, she continues to showcase her versatility.

“CinemaCon could not be more honored to present her with this year’s Female Star of the Year Award.”

The stars join fellow CinemaCon honorees Seth Rogen, Andy Serkis and Kevin Costner, who will receive the Cinema Icon Award, at the annual event, which takes place from March 24 to 27.

J-Connection: Adam Sandler, Steven Spielberg and Seth Rogen are all Jewish.
