One of our favorite Israeli companies is teaming with one of our favorite Jewish starlets, for a Super Bowl spot that we’re sure will prove plenty popular.
SodaStream has commissioned Scarlett Johansson to appear in its highly anticipated commercial for football’s biggest day of the year. The Israeli company, which manufacturers the hit at-home soda making machine, has hired the “Her” star as its “Global Spokesperson.”
In the Super Bowl commercial, which will air February 2, millions of viewers will get to watch ScarJo “demonstrate how easy it is, how sexy it is, to make your own soda,” according to Daniel Birnbaum, CEO at SodaStream.

“I’ve been using SodaStream products myself and giving them as gifts for many, many years,” Johansson said following the announcement.
“The company’s commitment to a healthier planet is a perfect fit for me. I love that the product can be tailored to any lifestyle and palate. The partnership between me and SodaStream is a no brainer. I am beyond thrilled to share my enthusiasm for SodaStream with the world!!”
However sexy the ad turns out to be, it will likely prove less controversial than last year’s commercial, which featured regular soda bottles exploding each time a consumer used SodaStream. CBS ultimately refused to air the spot.
Let’s hope this year’s effort makes it to prime time.
