An Israeli group is out to host the largest Shabbat dinner in the world.
White City Shabbat launched a campaign recently on Indie Gogo, a crowd-funding platform that allows users to contribute to a common goal.
The ultimate goal is to break the Guinness World Record for most attendees at a Shabbat meal. Event organizers are aiming for at least 1,000 guests, and are seeking $25,000 to that end, which the project has until April 9 to reach.
“This dinner will make history, build community, and kickstart a global movement that will inspire Jews worldwide to celebrate Shabbat in their own communities,” the campaign page states. “We know that more than the Jews have kept Shabbat, Shabbat has kept the Jews.”
The event is sponsored by Hangar 11, Golan Heights Winery, NakedSea Salt, the City of Tel Aviv-Yafo, and the Am Yisrael Foundation.
The help promote the project, White City Shabbat, a social community group in Tel Aviv, put together a video parodying the Dos Equis “Most interesting Man in the World” commercials.
