The Jewish Federations of North America have come together to create the Ukraine Assistance Fund.

The financial aid was generated by the group to provide security for Jewish communities and sites in the politically-unrest Ukraine, which has seen violence and riots as the Russian government invades the Crimea region.

“As the situation escalates, needs in the Ukrainian Jewish community become even more acute,” said Michael Siegal, chair of the Jewish Federations’ board of trustees.

Ukraine has an estimated Jewish population of 300,000 to 400,000.
