Germany has agreed to sell more than $1 billion in arms to Israel, according to a German newspaper.
The Bild newspaper added Sunday that Germany would supply the Jewish state with a pair of guided missile destroyers, with a net worth of $1.3 billion.
Israel is saying the destroyers will guard the Jewish state’s system of gas pipelines.
The deal was proposed months ago, resulting in a series of meetings between IDF officials and German reps before a satisfactory contract was reached.
Yossi Cohen, the head of the Israeli Prime Minister’s National Security Council, reportedly visited Berlin last week to cement the deal.
Germany has a recent history of selling elite arms to Israel, including a suite of dolphin missiles that have been slowly delivered to the Jewish government over the course of the last year or so.
