Michael Douglas is in Israel to collect the Genesis Prize, and met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this morning ahead of the ceremony.
Following the visit, Bibi released the following statement of thanks:
“This morning, my wife Sarah and I hosted actor Michael Douglas and his wife, the actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, along with their children Dylan Michael and Charys Zeta.
“Michael will receive the Genesis prize this evening, not only because of his professional achievements, but also because of his deep connection to Jewish traditions and the State of Israel. My wife and I congratulated Douglas on his win. He is a true friend of Israel, one who uses his public influence to take a clear stand against anti-Semitism.
“Michael and Catherine told us about their impressions of our capital Jerusalem as well as the beautiful landscapes of the Land of Israel.
“The couple also told us how their son wanted to have a deeper connection with the Jewish people and asked his parents to celebrate his Bar Mitzvah at the Western Wall in Jerusalem. (The family came to Israel last year for the celebration.) Next year, they said, the family will be back in Israel to celebrate the daughter’s Bat Mitzvah.
“To Michael, Catherine, and the whole family: Thank you for all that you do, and I hope to see you again soon in Israel.”
