The White House has named a leading Islamic Jihad member as a “specially designated global terrorist.”
Ziyad al-Nakhalah is deputy secretary general for the group, which operates out of Gaza and has already been designated as a whole as a terror group by the US, European Union and Israel. One of its major benefactors is Iran.
In a statement last week, the Obama administration picked out Ziyad in particular for the special designation, saying, “Ziyad has repeatedly taken credit for attacks against Israel. For example, Ziyad took credit for PIJ’s indiscriminate missile attacks into Israel in 2011, 2009, and 2008.”
As a result of Ziyad’s designation, Americans are forbidden from any interaction with the terrorist, and any property or interests he may have in the US are frozen.
The State Department added last week that Islamic Jihad was responsible for a December Tel Aviv bus bombing.
